Junior Playing Rights Policy Purpose Our Juniors are our future Senior Pennant players. Our talented Juniors need to be continually challenged to ensure they stick with the game and our club. The intention of this policy is to recognise talented players playing in the Juniors and help them transition into the senior playing ranks before they play Senior Pennants. Being invited to play with the Senior members is a privilege, thus we need to ensure that Juniors that are invited to play; Have golfing talent Have a good knowledge of the rules and etiquette of the game Have the maturity to mix in with the Senior members This policy applies to those players that are 16 years or under. Two Levels of Playing Rights This Policy covers two levels of playing rights; Being invited to play in the Senior Saturday haggle Being invited to play in Senior competitions (i.e. full playing rights) Approval Process Junior Committee to refer names to Match Committee. The Match Committee to vett and pass to Management Committee for approval. Applications must be received at least 7 days prior to the next Match Committee Meeting to be considered. The Match Committee currently meets on the 2nd Monday of each month. Senior Saturday Haggle Criteria A Junior is required to have a Whangaparaoa course handicap of 21 or better to be considered for Saturday morning play. There will be no exceptions to this. Juniors need to have held this handicap level for at least 1 month and once they are playing with the Senior members they need to maintain this level. Failure to do so will result in their eligibility for Saturday morning play reviewed by the Match Committee. Nominator & Seconder Having maintained the appropriate handicap level, the Junior can apply for Saturday morning play by completing the application form and submitting this to the Club Captain (through the administration office). The Junior must be nominated and seconded by Senior members of Whangaparaoa Golf Club. The Seconder cannot be a relative of the Junior member. Trial Period The Junior member will need to complete their 1st 6 rounds of Saturday morning golf with any one of the committee members or a senior playing member before their playing rights will be confirmed. (See appendix A for full list of committee members). Conditions of Play 1. No more than one Junior members can play in a foursome. 2. The player can start their round no earlier than 10:30am 3. Any complaints from Senior members about the Junior will result in their eligibility being reviewed 4. Juniors are only eligible to play in; Saturday Haggle Open tournaments (e.g. Whangaparaoa Open) Patrons Trophy Andrew Cup *If a Junior enters the Senior club championships, they are ineligible to play in the Junior club championships Notification The Junior member will be notified by letter whether their application has been accepted or rejected. If accepted, they will be formally invited to play by the Club Captain. Senior Competition Eligibility The next step The next step for a Junior member to take is full Saturday playing rights which includes eligibility for all Senior competitions (unless an age-group has been specified such as the Anderson Cup). Criteria To qualify for this level of play, the Junior member must have; Played in the Saturday morning field for more than one full year or, Have a playing handicap of 18 or better or, Have represented Whangaparaoa in Senior Pennants for an entire season or, Have represented Whangaparaoa at the North Harbour Senior competition. It is up to the Junior member to make it known to the Club Captain that they have met the criteria. A one-off match fee of $50.00 will be required if the Junior is invited to have full playing rights. Conditions of Play 5. No more than two Junior members can play in a foursome. 6. The player can start their round no earlier than 10:30am 7. Any complaints from Senior members about the Junior will result in their eligibility being reviewed 8. Juniors are only eligible to play in; Saturday Haggle Open tournaments (e.g. Whangaparaoa Open) Patrons Trophy Andrew Cup Match-play & Stroke-play Club Championships *If a Junior enters the Senior club championships, they are ineligible to play in the Junior club championships Match Committee Meeting the criteria described above does not automatically qualify a Junior member for full Saturday playing rights. The Match Committee will consider each Junior member on a case-by-case basis. The Match Committee will then pass there recommendations on to the Management Committee for approval. Notification The Junior member will be notified by letter from the Club Captain whether they have been invited to have full playing rights. Limit The number of Juniors eligible for full playing rights will be limited to 10.
